NMA urges pharmacists to improve on roles in improving Nigerians health

The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has urged Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, PSN, to reflect on the poor health indices of Nigerians and come out with the roles they could play to stem the tide.

In a statement made available to Oak TV by the association, NMA said prescription right abuse with the abuse of narcotics as well as codeine needs the concerted efforts off all stakeholder, including the PSN, to enable the nation curb the menace.

NMA through the release, signed by National Publicity Secretary of the NMA, Dr Obtade Sunday Obiimakinde, felicitated with PSN, as it joined its contemporaries across the globe to commemorate 2018 World Pharmacists Day.

“The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr Francis Adedayo Faduyile, and all members of the NMA wish to felicitate with the President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, all Pharmacists in Nigeria and all over the globe on this special occasion of the World Pharmacists Day.

“The theme for this year’s celebration: ‘Pharmacists: Your Medicine Experts’ is a reflection of the important and key role played by pharmacists within the healthcare team globally.

“In line with the theme for this year’s celebration, we urge the PSN to reflect on the poor health indices of Nigerians and come out with the roles you can play to stem the ugly tide. The prescription right abuse with the abuse of narcotics as well as codeine needs the concerted efforts off all stakeholder to curb the menace.

“We also wish to reiterate our commitment to maintain the already established cordiality and collaboration with your members, ensuring harmony with the health sector for the benefit of the patients,” NMA said.
