Melaye not abducted, but escaped into bush after attack -Aid

Senator Dino Melaye has not been kidnapped, contrary to reports circulating on the internet on Thursday, July 26, 2018.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce had earlier revealed via his Twitter handle @benmurraybruce that  Melaye had been abducted by unknown persons.

He wrote; “I have just been informed by Moses Melaye, @dino_melaye’s brother, that Dino has been abducted by unknown persons in a Toyota Sienna that blocked their car and overpowered them on their way to Kogi to answer to Dino’s court case. Lets be on the watch out. Will keep you updated.”

However, OAKTV has just confirmed that although the Senator was attacked on his way to Kogi, he was not Kidnapped.

Mr Gideon Ayodele, Media Aid toSenator Dino while speaking with OAK TV said; “He was attacked and we believe he has escaped into the bush. We are yet to know his whereabouts”

Senator Melaye was said to have been on his way to Lokoja for a court sitting in a case of alleged arms running brought against him by the police when the incident occurred
Mr Melaye had on Tuesday, joined other 14 lawmakers to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC)

OAK TV also reached out to PDP’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, who said information on the attack had reached him, but he was yet to get confirmation.

“I have been briefed, but I’m trying to find out. I’m yet to get confirmation from a reliable source” he said.

Melaye was on Wednesday arraigned in an FCT High Court, Apo, on a six-count charge, bordering on attempted suicide, attempt to escape from custody and damage of police property.

He was granted bail in the sum of five million and two sureties like sum.
